Zaman Fahim Imtiaz : Socio camp is arguably the leading and most influential, social awareness creating competition of the nation. It unites universities from all over the county to brainstorm and put an end to the social problems that the masses face daily. This competition has been around for 8 years and is organized by one of the biggest student body clubs of North South University, North South University Social Services Club (NSUSSC). The uniqueness of this competition lies in the format in which the participating teams have to put together a viable and effective campaign, designed to simultaneously solve the social issue of the case and make the solution self-sustaining. Teams who wish to bask in the glory of winning this auspicious event, are required to pass through two rounds of selection, and then the Grand Finale. There are mandatory workshops before each of the two rounds where they are briefed of their cases get their queries answered by the highly competent event coordinators.
This year, Socio Camp 8 is back with a blast as a record breaking number of teams from universities all over Bangladesh have registered and are actively participating since day one. The registration process was made easier than ever with the launch of the club’s official website (nsussc.org), allowing the participants to register from anywhere and at any time. This installment of the event opened the registration window on the 22nd Octoberand closed on the 27th October.
The 500+ teams who were eagerly waiting for their confirmation messages and the invite for the 1st round workshop were then satisfied the in the following hours after the registration deadline was over. The 1st round workshop was held in the North South University, in the massive and well known auditorium AUDI801 in two slots one after the other starting from at 9 am. As the hour approached a long cue of nervous and excited faces could be spotted outside one of the entrances of the campus, who were being checked in by the members of NSUSSC. The 1st round workshop successfully began on time as per reputation and started with First workshop started at 9.40 with the opening speech of the president Asif Mahmud, followed by Head of external affairs, Lamiya Rahman. Our proud sponsors of Socio Camp 8 also shared a few words of wisdom and inspiration with the participants before they were instructed officially about the cases by the faculty advisor and workshop coordinator, Faiz Hossain.DilaraAfroz Khan, the club coordinatorof extra-curricular clubs was also presentand gave motivational talks in both the slots of the workshops.
The workshop ended with the participants receiving the necessary information via presentations, handouts and an interactive question-answer sessions. The deadline for submitting their cases was the 30th of October, 2017. The submitted cases are being evaluated by the proficient judges as this line is being read. Hundreds of teams are awaiting the results with the hopes of qualifying to the 2nd round.
