BRAC University (BRACU), with IPDC Finance Limited as the host sponsor, organised “The Old Town Fest”, the first of its kind in BRACU, with a tagline “Puran Dhaka-r Oitijje Jago Uchchashe” on Wednesday (29 October 2017) from 10:30am to 8:30pm.
Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed inaugurated the program releasing two pigeons in the presence of Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Ansar Ahmed, Ph.D., Treasurer Shib Narayan Kairy, Head of Relationship Management Office Ismat Shereen and Mr Md Nurul Islam Bulbul, Senior Assistant Director, Admin.
Mr Rahmat Ali and Mrs Wahida Mollick, the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, the University of Dhaka; Prothom Alo Associate Editor Anisul Hoque and Mumtaheena Chowdhury Toya and Sabila Nur, both of whom are into acting and modelling, joined the festivity as celebrity guests.
Later, Vice Chancellor Professor Syed Saad Andaleeb, Ph.D. enjoyed a live Qawwali performance in the auditorium.
There were 26 food stalls offering delicious eatables of Hajir Biriyani, Bismillah Kabab, Beauty Lassi, Grand Nawab Biryani, Burger e Kellafote, Agun Paan etc. Items like traditional bangles and hand stitched bags were also available.
Rides such as a traditional ferris wheel, a palanquin and a horse-drawn carriage also entertained crowds.
The stall owners have decided to donate a part of their earnings for the welfare of displaced Rohingyas who took refuge in Bangladesh.
