BRAC University initiated Cleanliness Program at National Memorial in Savar

The National Memorial at Savar, established as a significant monument in memory of the outstanding sacrifice and valor of the great martyrs of the war of liberation, was built as the first monument of the War of Liberation and also represents the symbol of our nationalism. This national monument also stands as the pride of our history.  The National Memorial reminds us of the series of conquests and successes of the freedom fighters and the citizens of the country.

However, nowadays it has been observed that the public are ruining the National Memorial premises by littering and occasionally vandalizing the property. In an attempt to address this problem, BRAC University Residential campus (Savar) has taken the initiative to start a program in order to clean up the premises of the national monument once a semester since 2014. Each semester, approximately 100 to 150 students, faculty and officials participate in this unique program. The main objective of the event is to make students realize the spirit of patriotism and develop a sense of pride in their ability to contribute to their own country while taking responsibility and direct action towards positive change. Continuing this tradition in Fall 2017, the students of BRAC University Residential Campus took part in this clean-up program on Friday, November 17, 2017.

A total of 120 students along with the faculty and staff cleaned the National Memorial premises with patriotic spirit and enormous enthusiasms. At certain point, general sightseers who went there to visit the historical site, were highly motivated by observing the action of BRAC University students and started to clean the place hand in hand with our students. In summing up, we must say that it was a successful event through which we could touch the heart of mass people and spread crucial message to them.
