Winter is claimed to be the favorite season of the privileged. On the contrary it is seen as a curse and battling period by the needy and homeless living under the open sky. This year’s winter broke the record of the last 20 years of the lowest temperature where people were crippling even while staying indoors. The unprivileged people in the rural areas are still trying to fight against the winter cold with the few pieces of spare garments since blankets and sweater are way out of their budget.
So, North South University Social Services Club with its annual event “winter clothing drive” is back once again to stand selflessly beside the people in need. A group of 40 club members travelled to Kishoreganj to distribute 1000 blankets amongst the underprivileged people. To support this act of humanity and nobility, they were also accompanied by the UpazilaExecutiveOfficer, Abdullah Al Masud. The event took place at 11 in the morning at the KishoregonjSadarUpazilla Field.
After the event ended, the President of the club, Asif Mahmud said- ‘Our aim has always been to serve the people who have been deprived of privileges and are sufferer of different societal and natural disasters. Winter Clothing Drive is yet another opportunity for us.’
It is the youth that can come in need of crisis like this. This event by North South University Social Services Club is a great example of such initiatives.
